Emphasising the need to engage in outsourcing to improve the quality of service, Union minister of state for finance S S Palanimanickam on Saturday called on the government departments to determine their boundaries of outsourcing. |
"Globalisation has a relentless logic of its own and there is no escaping the larger question on outsourcing. It is the task of the departments concerned to determine their boundaries of outsourcing ? what must be done inside the department and what should be outsourced," he said. |
He was addressing the valedictory of the three-day World Customs Organisation (WCO) ICT conference here. |
Pointing out that IT has brought about a revolution in every sector, the minister lauded the efforts of the customs department in adopting change. |
"To ensure the success of outsourcing, Customs should define the services and levels expected to be delivered by the end-user. This can be achieved through extensive consultation with stakeholders," he added. |
Palanimanickam commended the role of WCO in creating awareness on technological imperatives required for adoption by customs organisations worldwide. |
