The Madhya Pradesh government is planning to establish a software technology park in Gwalior and it has received good response from some leading developers of the country.

Three companies- Zoom Developers, L&T and KSL & Industries, have expressed interest in the project. The park would be set up in a joint venture with private developers.

The state would provide 80 acre and is likely to pump in Rs 10 crore for the park. This area would be expanded further as per the demand.

The Madhya Pradesh State Electronic Development Corporation (MPSEDC) is working on a proposal to establish a hi-tech habitat at Gwalior near the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, providing all necessary infrastructure for IT companies.

In recent years, Gwalior and the nearby industrial area of Malanpur have emerged as a counter magnet to over-crowded National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi. Big names in the Indian industry have recently shifted their manufacturing operations to locations near Gwalior.

"Gwalior's proximity to the NCR makes it an ideal location for IT-related industries. The city offers IT investors the right environment for development with facilities at reasonable prices," said Swarnmala Rawla, principal secretary-IT of the state.

The proposed park will be equipped with high-speed data connectivity, uninterrupted power supply and support infrastructure such as restaurants, postal and courier services, security services, banks and recreational facilities, she added.

Rawla added that the government has already allocated land for the proposed park and work on fencing is underway. "We are preparing a low-cost facility equipped with the best possible infrastructure," she said.

This time the state is following a different path for establishing its second software technology park at Gwalior from the first park established at Indore. Apprehension about poor response from developers about Indore park was always there.

However, in the case of Gwalior, the state got a good response from various developers.
