Dharamshala, the winter capital of Himachal Pradesh, stands to lose out on the tourism front with the Indian Premier League (IPL) officials deciding to host the matches outside India.
It is worth mentioning that IPL commissioner Lalit Modi had earlier hinted at Dharamshala being considered as the venue for hosting few of the IPL matches. Hosting IPL matches in Dharamshala could have gone a long way in sprucing up the tourist activity in the tranquil town, but now the advantage seems to have been lost as IPL matches were shifted to South Africa.
Speaking to Business Standard, Badri Chauhan, general manager of Dharamshala-based Asia Health Resorts, admitted that IPL matches in Dharamshala would have a cascading impact on the tourism industry. Similarly, Sheetal Dabur, vice-president of Shoghi Communication, said they had received about 60 enquiries from people across India who were looking forward for information on Dharamshala.
