In 2002-03, he had to sort out several issues, including interconnection with the GSM operators, retaining quality manpower, keeping the network fault-free and solving billing complaints.

While TTSL is celebrating completion of one year of services in Gujarat, Vyas is busy chalking out plans to add one million new customers in this circle during the next one and half years.

Looking at the cellular subscription figures in the Gujarat circle, where does TTSL stand?
In a very competitive market like Gujarat, where all four major GSM players have been active before our launch and another major CDMA player, Reliance, is present, we have done extremely well. We are well ahead of our own target.
At the end of this month, we will have 1.50 lakh CDMA subscribers in the Gujarat circle. Of this, 70 per cent will be CDMA-mobile customers and the rest our fixed line subscribers. We kicked off our services in Gujarat in December last year. In the first year, we have witnessed an impressive number of subscribers joining us. The number is going up steadily.

Where does TTSL go from here in Gujarat?
We have now set an ambitious target of adding one million new customers during the next 10 to 18 months in this circle as the market is expanding rapidly. While adding new customers during this period, we will also work for retaining our existing subscribers through various attractive schemes.

More new services will be announced in the near future. We are in the process of strengthening our customer care team to respond to our subscribers
