In the midst of a storm over his alleged threat to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati of misusing CBI against her, Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh today said that the probe agency works independently.

Talking to reporters here, Singh said that he came to know of the FIR filed against him in this connection only through the newspapers and would give his statement to the investigating officers when asked.

Singh said, "CBI is the premier investigating agency and works independently with no pressure from any quarter".

The senior Congress leader, who is also the incharge of party affairs in the state, said that he had only referred to the atrocities on Congress workers and how they are being framed in fake cases by the BSP government.

Talking about dissent among UPA partners, especially from RJD Chief Lalu Prasad and LJP President Ram Vilas Paswan, he said that they were still members of the UPA and ministers in the Manmohan Singh government.

"They are our friends and have been with us since the beginning," he added.
