With a water-scarce summer in sight for the capital, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit will soon take up the issue of release of water for the jinxed Sonia Vihar project with her Uttar Pradesh Couterpart Mulayam Singh Yadav. |
"The union irrigation minister has spoken to the UP chief minister. Even the Delhi CM is scheduled to meet her UP counterpart soon," Chief Executive Officer of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) Arun Mathur said here today. |
The Mulayam Singh government has been dilly-dallying on the issue of releasing water from the Tehri dam, he said while releasing a new magazine titled 'Water and You' on the occasion of the World Water Day. |
"Inspite of the political differences, he (Mulayam) is legally bound to release water much sooner than later," he added. He also justified the high water tariff in the capital, saying that will force consumers to check wastage of water and will in turn contribute to end Delhi's water woes. |
"It is only when people pay does it begin to pinch. It is only then that they will realise its value. That will effectively stop wastage," he said, and will contribute its mite towards reducing Delhi's water-scarcity woes," he said. |
The magazine, brought out by leading water solutions company EA Water Pvt Ltd, will focus on the problems and solutions to water related issues faced in everyday lives. |
