The Kandhamal district administration is in a fix over the payment of compensation to the kin of the persons who had lost their lives in firing during the violence in the district.
Out of 37 persons killed in over a month long violence in the district, five persons were gunned down, including four jawans. Official sources say that the violence in Kandhamal has claimed 37 lives with two others missing while unofficial sources have pegged the death toll at 45.
"We have sought clarification from the government to pay compensation to the kin of the persons who lost their lives in the firing during the violence" said Kishan Kumar, the district collector.
According to sources, the district administration has paid ex-gratia compensation to the kids of 32 persons who were killed in the violence so far after joint verification by the police and revenue officers.
Kumar further said that the district administration is providing house construction relief for damaged houses in three phases and in the first phase, Rs 10,000 is being provided per house to over 500 people. "The house damage assistance is given to the persons for constructing the houses after returning from the relief camps to their own villages" he said.
