DMK, the UPA's key constituent, today welcomed the passage of the Women's Reservation Bill in the Rajya Sabha.

Likening the current Bill to a whole-fruit, and sub-quota for women from SC/ST and Muslim communities to juicy segments, DMK President and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said, "Let us decide on who gets to eat the different pulp segments at the appropriate time."

"Reservation is like a whole-fruit. Let us be happy that we have got it now," he said in a release.

The DMK is a strong votary of reservation for women in the Parliament and state legislatures. Karunanidhi had recently made a similar remark that the need of the hour was the passage of the Bill and the issue of sub-quota could be sorted out later.
