It is now the turn of doctors to join the ongoing agitation launched by the pro-Telangana outfits demanding separate statehood for the region.

The Telangana medical joint action committee served a strike notice on the state government on Thursday expressing its intention to go on strike from Friday. The JAC notice stated that its members would attend to only emergency cases and stop treatment of normal patients.

Government employees, students and the employees of the road transport corporation are already taking part in the 10-day old general strike.

The state government had issued a notification today bringing the operations of NTPC Limited under the purview of the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA). This was reportedly aimed at preventing the employees of the public sector power producer from going on strike in the next six months.

Meanwhile, the Telangana political JAC has deferred its decision to observe a 48-hour bandh in the region.
