If the government wants us to hire workers from tomorrow it would not be possible for us to do it," Dhoot said when asked in an interview by private TV channel that if he had differences with the government regarding the macro-economic issues like labour policy and affirmative action.

Dhoot, who is also the Chairman of Videocon Group, pitched for labour reforms and said government must initiate steps in this regard despite its constraints.

"I guess this government has some limitations but that does not take away the fact that there is a need for labour reforms in the country," he said.

Pointing out the labour environment in China, Dhoot said one of the major reasons behind India's lacklustre performance as compared to China is lack of flexibility in labour policy.

"You go to China and set up a factory today and close it tomorrow, hire labour today and shed it tomorrow. This is the labour environment there," he said.

"We do not want such flexibility because we are a socialist country, he said.

"We have the best of democracy, best of judiciary, and best of talent pool and yet China stays ahead of us because the labour policy there is flexible," he said.
