DoT official to chair group of Asia Pacific Telecommunity

A senior official of Department of Telecom (DoT) has been named to chair the preparatory Group of Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT).

The Asia Pacific body of United Nation's International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has named R N Jha, Deputy Director General for International Relations at Department of Telecom, to chair APT preparatory Group.

The group will recommend telecom norms and standards required for the Asia Pacific region at a global meet to be held in October.

As per the list released by Asia Pacific Telecommunity, APT preparatory Group will have to finalise recommendations made by three working groups.

The group's recommendations form key in defining and forming international rules on issues like security, interconnectivity between countries and financial transactions.
 

The recommendation will be discussed at global meet of ITU, Plenipotentiary Conferences of 2014 to be held in Korea.
