Dot Rejects Spectrum Bandwidth Demand

The Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) wing of the department of telecommunications (DoT) has said additional allocation of spectrum bandwidth for microwave access to cellular operators will result in a loss of Rs 75 crore and will be reviewed only in the next financial year.

Cell service providers had demanded an increase in the bandwidth pointing out that the existing quantum of bandwidth -- 112 MHz for circles and 224 MHz for metros -- for microwave access was grossly inadequate.

They had said the bandwidth should be increased to 200 MHz for circles and 400 MHz in metros so that it enabled the operators
