The Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) has approved financial assistance of Rs 15,115 crore for the revival of 35 Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs), Parliament was informed today.
"Department of Public Enterprises has approved financial assistance of Rs 15,115 crore for revival of 35 CPSE," Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Arun Yadav said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
Of the total amount, Rs 2,921 crore was in the form of cash infusion, while Rs 12,194 crore was given as non-cash assistance, consisting of waivers and write offs of interest and loans.
According to the Public Enterprise Survey, 2007-08, 78 CPSEs were identified as sick, the minister said.
However, 35 units of these units have been approved for revival on the recommendations of the Board for Reconstruction of Public Sector Enterprises (BRPSE), the minister said.
"Up to July 15, this year, the BRPSE had recommended revival of 55 CPSEs," Yadav added.

As per Public Enterprises Survey 2007-08, 18 CPSEs have shown profit in 2007-08 out of 35 CPSEs approved for revival.
The concerned administrative ministries/departments of the CPSEs prepare revival proposals for sick companies and refer them to BRPSE for recommendations, after which the government approval is sought.
