The Tamil Nadu government will implement a drinking water scheme in Vellore at a cost of Rs 1,800 crore.

Replying to a debate on the motion to thank the Governor for his Assembly address, deputy chief minister MK Stalin said the proposed scheme will have Cauvery as its water source. The scheme would benefit six corporations, five town panchayats and 64 villages in Vellore district. “We are looking for funds to expedite the project,” he added.

On the Hogenakkal drinking water project, Stalin said work was expected to start in March 2010 and efforts would be taken to complete it ahead of schedule, which is December 2012.
