The Debt Recovery Tribunal-I Chennai today said that it had settled a total number of 37 cases involving a claim amount of Rs 23.16 crores at the Lok Adalats set up by it.
The tribunal conducts debt recovery Lok Adalats in association with the Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority. The tribunal has so far recovered a sum of Rs 719 crores since the inception in October,1996, and out of this amount, the total recovery of debts through Lok Adalats stands at Rs 32.62 crores.
An amount of Rs 4.54 crores was recovered and Rs15 lakhs has been promised by defaulters to be paid within specified period as per a compromise arrangement.
