Dumping Probe Into Steel Imports

With the steel sector facing duty impositions worldwide, the Directorate-General of Anti-Dumping (DGAD) has initiated anti-dumping investigations into imports of hot-rolled coils, sheets, plates and strips from a number of countries. The investigation has been launched on the basis of a petition filed by the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) and Essar Steel. Imports from South Africa, Romania, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, the European Union, Australia, Canada and Singapore will be investigated.

Recently, the DGAD has also initiated an investigation into imports of induction-hardened forged steel rolls from Russia, Ukraine and South Korea.

Only five companies produce hot-rolled steel products in the country. Of these, the Tata Iron and Steel Company, Jindal Vijaynagar Steel and Ispat Industries import the products and hence, do not fall under the definition of
