With an objective to improve the accessibility to e-despatch system, the state IT department plans to introduce mobile version of the electronic transfer of letters.
With mobile being one of the most convenient tools to access government information, mobile version of e-Despatch will come in handy for those officers who are willing to view urgent/important letters through various mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets, said a source. The version is aimed at helping the sub-ordinate offices, where most of the officers spend longer time on field visits and also those officers who are on tour or leave.
A five member committee under the chairmanship of the Director IIIT is constituted to contemplate on the effective implementation of the new version. The department also mulls offline version of the e-despatch in case of non-availability of internet connectivity. The move from the department comes after the school and mass education secretary Usha Padhi urged it for introducing a mobile version.

Apart from secure access facility, the mobile version will be have features like view notifications on receiving of letters, view letters received and sent letters by the officers, downloading of letters into the device for offline view, etc.
The mobile version will be accessible on Android, iPhone, iPAD and Windows Phone platforms and can be installed through respective app stores. Sources say about 25,000 addressees have been created for electronic transfer of letters. About 1,254 offices across the state are using the e-dispatch application. On an average 2,500 original letters (with 4500 memos) are being transacted daily through the application. About 10,000 citizens are accessing the application on daily basis.
Odisha has been a pioneering state in country in introducing electronic transfer of letter used by most of the departments of the government except law, parliamentary affairs, tourism and culture, science and technology, fisheries and animal resources development and public grievances and pension administration departments.
