The Election Commission has taken strong exception to "misusing" of railway premises in Madhya Pradesh for election campaign and sought a report from the Railway Board in this regard.

The EC said that some political activists in the state "unauthorisedly captured" a narrow gauge train from Gwalior on March 22, detained it wherever they liked, displayed party symbols and banners on the compartments and held political campaign.

"The campaign was organised unauthorisedly and by illegally misusing the government premises," it said in a letter to the Railway Board, asking it to apprise the Commission of the action taken by the Railway Ministry vis-a-vis the incident which caused financial losses to the exchequer.
