The Election Commission has served a notice to Arun Jaitley, senior leader of the Bhartiya Janata party (BJP), for allegedly indulging in " corrupt practices" during the campaigning in the Legislative Assembly constituency in New Delhi, the polling for which is being held tomorrow.
The Commission has pointed that Jaitley, who is a member of the Rajya sabha, had issued an appeal to the voters in Vishwas Nagar constituency for supporting BJP candidate on his official letter pad.
The election law prohibits the use of national or religious symbols for canvassing votes. Jaitley’s appeal was allegedly issued on a letter pad with national emblem printed on it and therefore constitutes violation of the law.
The Commission has asked Jaitley to send his reply by 5pm on November 29.
