Education Fortnight from today

Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday asked teachers, officials of the education and other departments concerned, public representatives, students and parents to participate and fully involve in the ‘Education Fortnight’, to be held from June 13 to 25.

“Education will be the spring board for the future of children and every child has the right to education. The focus should be on the enrollment of children, retention, improving literacy and providing quality education at all levels. The government is spending about Rs 2,000 crore towards infrastructure and other facilities including construction of model schools during this fortnight,” the chief minister said in a press release today.

 

The ‘Education Fortnight’ programme will kick-off from the Government High School at Ameerpet in Hyderabad. While first week will be focused on enrolment of children, the second week will be on entitlements.

The first week will cover enrollment of five-year-old-and-above children in schools, providing supplementary nutrition programme in villages. The main activities will be conduct of rally with villagers, teachers, young people and NGOs to mobilise the parents for enrollment of their children into schools, organising door-to-door campaign for enrolling five-year-old-and-above children,among others.

The second week will focus on ‘Children’s Entitlements Week, where activities like distribution of uniforms and text books will be taken care of, the release added.
