Elaborate security arrangements have been made here for the May 16 counting of votes for 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh.

The Director General of Police, Vikram Singh, has issued directives to the police officials across the state, to make necessary arrangements for the security of the electronic voting machines (EVMs) as also for the counting of votes, police sources said today.

One company PAC (Police Armed Constabulary) has been made available to each of the 71 districts besides two platoon each already present there, sources said adding that central paramilitary forces have not been deployed in counting and they have started moving out after the polling.

The district officials have also been asked to ensure that no untoward incident takes place after the counting of votes as the candidates often take out victory processions posing problems to the law and order situation, sources added.
