The emissions intensity of India’s GDP declined by more than 30 per cent between 1994 and 2007 and the country ranks fifth in aggregate greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions in the world behind the US, China, European Union and Russia in 2007.

Interestingly, the emissions of the US and China were almost four times that of India in 2007, according to the Indian Network for Climate Change Assessment (INCCA)’s ‘India: Greenhouse Gas Emission 2007’ report.
