Campaign to cover 150 civic bodies, 7 corporations of Gujarat.

With an aim of saving energy, the state government is set to roll out save energy campaign in civic bodies. Having carried out an energy audit campaign, Gujarat Urban Development Corporation (GUDC) would identify projects for energy saving.

The state-wide energy audit campaign would cover around 150 civic bodies including seven municipal corporations of the state and find out the factors responsible for wastage of energy in various public services like street lights, municipal water supply and sewage system.

Recent survey carried out by power company Torrent Power shows that hand pumps used in the residential areas consume a lot of energy.

According to an official of GUDC, the government has invited Letter of Intent (LoI) for 'Investment Grade Energy Audit Study'. The responsibility to implement energy saving programmes in all the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) has been entrusted with GUDC, which would carry out the project in co-operation with IL&FS Escomart Limited.

There has been a lot of scope for energy saving in various public services like water supply and sewage system, added the official. The government would take help of private players to deploy energy saving system. This project would help reduce operational costs as well as improve the quality of services.

Investment Grade Energy Audit (IGA) would be carried out in all the municipalities and municipal corporations of the state.

The scope of the project would include estimated energy saving and approximate cost of deploying the energy efficient system. GUDC has floated tenders to carry out technical risk analysis and deployment of energy saving equipment and its maintenance.

The applications from the interested energy saving companies (ESCOs) of India and abroad have been invited and the last date of submission is 15th September.
