Reiterating former state industry minister Partha Chatterjee 's stance on land availability, the new state industry minister Amit Mitra said Bengal has adequate land to facilitate industrialisation. Addressing a business gathering here on Thursday, Mitra said, "Land is no longer a problem,".

After assuming the charge of industry department, this is the first time Mitra participated in a meeting organised by business chamber.

"West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) has 3236 acre of land in 23 industrial parks spread across the state," he said during event organised by Bengal chamber of Commerce and Industry.

According to him the state government would be keen to help in availability of land in these parks in the most transparent and efficient manner.

For large projects, the minister urged the investors to look at locations such as Raghunathpur in Purulia, Panagarh in Burdwan, Kharagpur and Goaltore in West Midnapore.

Mitra, who is also the state finance minister, pointed out that the state government had already appointed relationship managers for large projects who would act as a liaison between the investor and the government officials.

The minister credited state CM Mamata Banerjee's efforts for the growth in tax collection which is expected to go up by 40 per cent this fiscal.

Representatives from various overseas groups like Lulu of Dubai, Quality Group of UAE, Safari Group of Qatar, among others were present at the meet here on Thursday.
