Ensure development of successor states: Governor

Governor, ESL Narasimhan, has directed senior state government officials to take all necessary measures for the progress and sustainable development of the successor states according to the provisions of the AP State Reorganisation Act.

The directions were issued following a presentation made by the officials at Raj Bhavan on various issues related to special development package and incentives under higher education and medical institutions and new infrastructure facilities to be provided in the successor state of Andhra Pradesh (AP) as per provisions of the Act.

The officers also presented a detailed report on the facilities to be provided under the special category status to AP in comparison with the other states' ongoing packages, identification of backward areas and also special packages sanctioned to other states like Bihar, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and other regions in the country. Various indicators for the backwardness of the region and other issues were discussed at the review meeting, according to an official press release.
 

The officials have informed the Governor that setting up of new universities, a hospital on the lines of AIIMS, 4,000 Mw NTPC plant, metro rail project for Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada-Guntur-Tenali and a new railway zone in the residuary Andhra Pradesh were envisaged under the Act.
