Duties had been imposed on steel wire with a diameter of 1 mm or above in July 1999. The duties are for a period of five years and are due for sunset review under the WTO rules.
Officials said that the notice for review was issued last month seeking comments from producers of the product in EU along with evidence of dumping.
Based on the comments of its domestic industry EU would decide whether the duties need to be in force for some more time.
In case a decision is taken to continue with duties, Indian exporters and importers would be given a chance to present their case.
While countervailing duty had been imposed in 1999, some amendments were made to the decision in January 2002.
