The European Union (EU) needs to streamline procedures relating to drugs and chemicals in order to facilitate trade.

A number of regulations proposed to be implemented need to be thought through, said senior Indian government officials at the ongoing India-EU Summit.

Speaking at the session on chemicals and pharmaceuticals, Vinay Kohli, secretary, department of chemicals and petrochemicals, said that centralisation of procedures will be useful only if they permit genuine access to all member countries of the EU.

The new format for marketing authorisation applications and other dossiers in the EU will be useful only if all countries agree to them.
