Expert panel to submit National Textiles Policy report by Oct

The policy will give a direction to the sector as a whole and address the needs of the industry for 21st century trade operations

An expert panel, which was constituted in June to formulate textiles policy 2013, will submit its report by October this year, government said today.
 
"The government has constituted an Expert Committee in June 2013 to review the National Textiles Policy, 2000, and formulate the National Textiles Policy 2013," Minister of State for Textiles Panabaaka Lakshmi said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
 
The policy will give a direction to the sector as a whole and address the needs of the industry for 21st century trade operations, she added.
 
The panel is headed by National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council (NMCC) Member Secretary Ajay Shankar.
 
 
Replying to another query, Lakshmi said that under the Jute Packaging Material Act 1987, jute packaging material is compulsorily used in the supply and distribution of certain commodities.
 
"The matter regarding compulsory use of jute packaging material for the packaging of food grains and sugar for 2013-14 (July-June) is under consideration of the government," the minister said.
