Export excellence honour for Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar has been declared as the city of export excellence for marine products by Union commerce and textile minister Anand Sharma who announced the Foreign Trade Policy 2009-14 at New Delhi on Thursday.

Besides Bhubaneswar, Firozabad and Agartala have been notified as cities of export excellence for glassware and bamboo and cane products respectively.

The seafood exporters association in the state hailed the announcement. “We express gratitude to the Director General of Foreign Trade for this honour which will boost the morale of exporters of marine products,” said Gorachand Mohanty, President , The Sea Food Association Exporters Association of India, Orissa Region.

 

The sea food export from the state for the year 2010-11 stood at more than Rs 600 crore as compared to Rs 428.25 crore in 2009-10. This honour will help in infrastructure development and bank financing for growth of marine products export from the state.
