Exports up 12%, imports surge 21% in Feb

Exports increased by 12.3% to $7.8 billion in February 2006 when compared with $6.9 billion in February 2005. Total exports between April-February 2005-06 stood at $88.7 billion.

Imports in February 2006 increaseed 21.38% to $11.04 billion from $9.09 billion in February last year, Commerce Minister Kamal Nath said today.

Total imports between April-February 2005-06 rose 33% to $126.33 billion when compared with $94.99 billion in the same period last fiscal.

Trade deficit between April-February widened to $37.57 billion as against $24.73 billion in the year-ago period.
