Cottage and Small Scale Industries Association (CSSIA) of South 24-parganas district in association with the Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and South 24-parganas Zila Parishad will host the second Silpa Banijya Mela with the theme 'Self employment', Sujan Chakraborty, member of Parliament and chief patron of the fair, announced here today.

"The fair will provide a platform for entrepreneurs in the small and medium enterprises (SME) and give very small players unprecedented exposure," said Chakraborty.

The fair expects to have around 150 stalls and 125 pavilions.

The fair would have workshops on areas like pisciulture, food processing and surgical industry running in parallel.

To push self-employment, he said SBI, UBI, Peerless and BNCCI would have stalls to provide information on all aspects of starting of a small scale business.

Other banks like UTI Bank, NABARD and Canara Bank will be present as well, claimed Soumen Niyogi, joint secretary of the Silpa Banijya Mela committee.

The organisers aim to act as facilitators for potential small entrepreneurs, said Chakr- aborty.

"Since 2001-02 more than 500 SSI units have been set up in the region," claimed Chakraborty.

Last year, the fair helped 50-plus entrepreneurs get loans to the tune of Rs 18 lakh, and this year the number could go up to 100, Niyogi went on to claim.
