The Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Fapcci), in an effort to establish water purification systems in the flouride-afflicted regions of Ananthapur, Nalgonda, Warangal and other districts, has sought to establish an NGO, Fapcci Foundation.

Speaking at an interactive session with Kamal Taori, director-general, Council for Advancement of People's Action and Rural Technology (Capart), Shyam Sunder Pasari, member, Fapcci, said that the decision to this effect was taken in the last board meeting and that Fapcci wanted Capart to fund them in this regard.

Responding to various suggestions of the members of Fapcci on the formation of a foundation, Taori said that he cannot make a firm commitment.

He explained that while the total budget outlay for Capart was Rs 60 crore, Rs 40 crore was committed to NGOs with whom they were already working with.

He added that the total outlay for rural development in India was of the order of Rs 34,000 crore and that each district comprising a number of villages required an approximate budget of Rs 300 crore.

The need was to look out for 'Hope models' that have worked out through public initiative and cooperation without seeking any grant, rebate or subsidy, Taori remarked.
