Farm growth vital, says Sonia

Expressing concern at suicides by farmers, Congress President Sonia Gandhi today said overall progress was not possible without growth in agriculture. The sector was being accorded top priority in the 11th Five-Year Plan, she said.

"Agriculture is the backbone of country's development and I am pained to see several farmers committing suicide," she told a rally in Latur district in central Maharashtra.
