Farm loan waiver: Yogi govt gets 1.1 million claims worth Rs 40 billion

The flagship scheme is still 'open-ended' as over million eligible farmers were left out

The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh is processing loan waiver claims of over 1.1 million small and marginal farmers totalling almost Rs 40 billion.
 
Farm loan waiver is the flagship scheme of the Adityanath government, which had allocated Rs 360 billion in the budget during 2017-18 for writing off debts of an estimated 8.6 million small and marginal farmers, who had sourced bank loans during 2015-16.
 
The relief included projected crop loan waiver of about Rs 307 billion with the remaining portion of Rs 53 billion aimed at providing succour to other segments of farmers by writing
