Not satisfied with Rs 100 bonus on the wheat minimum support price announced by the Union government, Bhartiya Kisan Union (Punjab) has demanded a review of the decision and an increase in the price of wheat MSP to Rs 1,140 per quintal.

"We are not happy with the bonus of Rs 100 declared by the government. We are of the view that as per the price index, the wheat price should be fixed at Rs 1,140 per quintal which would only meet the cost of sowing the crop," BKU (Punjab) President Ajmer Singh Lakhowal said here.

Lakhowal claimed the government was importing wheat at a much higher price but was not offering the same price to Indian farmers.

"If the farmers get higher price of wheat, they would be encouraged to bring more area under wheat cultivation thereby help in removing the threat of food grain shortage in the country," he said.
