Sought to be created as a modern township on the lines of Noida along the Lucknow-Kanpur highway, LIDA is aimed at industrial and commercial amelioration in the central Uttar Pradesh region.

The farmers are asking for almost Rs 32 lakh for a bigha of land, while the applicable circle rate is a mere Rs 1.5-2.5 lakh a bigha.

This has created a virtual roadblock in the process of land acquisition for LIDA with almost three meetings between farmers and a committee appointed by the Lucknow District Magistrate (DM) for the purpose remaining unproductive.

LIDA will acquire 2,000 acres in the first phase. The Authority has notified revenue villages and issued legal notification for the acquisition. The initial remote sensing survey of the proposed corridor had been done and the land is to be acquired identified.

Meanwhile, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) also plans to bring 235 more villages under its fold, which if executed will overlap some area notified under LIDA. This will need adjustment and de-notification.

"We have already written a letter to the LDA seeking details in this regard and awaiting a reply," Additional Chief Executive Officer (ACEO) Vivek Varshney told Business Standard.

A total of 83 villages between Lucknow and Unnao will be acquired for LIDA.

Meanwhile, the LIDA Master Plan is in the final stages and will be put before the next board meeting to be presided over by the Industrial Development Commissioner (IDC).

"We are trying to convince the farmers and reach an agreement, so that the land acquisition can take place early," Varshney added.
