The Union finance ministry today categorically denied allegations made by Jagat Singh, son of former external affairs minister Natwar Singh, in an interview with a television channel that the finance minister was influencing the Volcker probe into oil-for-food scam.

Denying the allegations, the Directorate of Enforcement said in a statement released by the finance ministry that all investigations being conducted into the Volcker report were "strictly in accordance with the law, uninfluenced by any person or any extraneous factor".

Congress sources termed Jagat's allegations as "irresponsible statement" and said that disciplinary action could be taken against him.
