Secretaries to visit affected areas.
The flood situation in the state remained grim with the official death toll reaching 20 and 1,123 villages in 19 districts still remaining marooned even as the state government maintained that there has been substantial improvement in the scenario.
Official data revealed around 2.07 million people in the state were affected by the flood that has ravaged 24,429 houses. As part of rescue and relief operations, the state government claimed to have evacuated 0.15 million people and has deployed 945 boats in the flood affected areas.
Meanwhile, the state government has decided to send secretaries of different government departmental to the flood affected areas to take stock of the situation at the ground level.
"It has been decided that secretaries of different departments including civil supplies, health, rural development and water resources will visit the flood affected areas to take stock of the ground situation. The water levels have receded but there are many villages in Banki (Cuttack district) and Tirtol (Jagatsinghpur district) and also villages in Nayagarh and Boudh districts which remain marooned,” said state minister for revenue & disaster management S N Patro.
