Flood-hit Andhra gets Rs 1,000-cr PM relief

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today announced Rs 1,000 crore towards undertaking immediate relief and rehabilitation work in the five districts of Andhra Pradesh devastated in the recent floods.

Singh, who is here to assess the damage caused by the floods, said that the “flood of this nature is a national calamity” and assured that the Centre would stand by the state in times of such crises.

Central teams would come to the state and assess the situation together with the state officials. The Centre would decide the quantum of aid based on the recommendations. “Money will not be a constraint for rebuilding the flood affected districts,” he said.

 

On India continuing with stimulus packages, he said they were inevitable to sustain growth. They would continue for the time being, he clarified. He said India would grow at 6.3-6.5 per cent this financial year.
