Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today said the government need to remain vigilant even as food inflation has declined.
"...Decline in WPI inflation for food and primary articles for the week ended on January 29, 2011 is welcome but we need to remain vigilant," Mukherjee said in a statement.
"We don't want to over-interpret the weekly data," he further said.
Food inflation declined to a seven-week low of 13.07% in end-January from 17.05% in the week ended January 22. The data was released today.
The food inflation has declined sharply mainly due to lower prices of fruits and vegetables, moong, condiments & spices, jowar and masur, the statement said.
However, the prices of fish-marine, arhar, barley and gram have moved up, it added.
