Under the Central government scheme for technology upgradation of food processing industries, Orissa has sent 45 proposals since 2007-08, said Charan Das Mahant, minister of state for food processing industry during the current session of Lok Sabha.
Answering an unstarred question of MP Arjun Charan Sethi, the minister replied,” total 45 proposals from Orissa has been received thorough e-portal under the scheme for technical upgradation.”
From 2007-08, the food processing industry has decentralised the process of providing financial assistance to upgrade the existing food processing centers and establish new ones.
In the new process, the interested parties file the application either with a bank or financial institution. The banks or financial institutions then study the project potential and determine the eligible grant amount.
The food processing ministry, after receiving the recommendations and necessary documents, releases the money on first-cum-first-serve basis, with a condition that all proposals are made through the e-portal.
The minister said, some of the proposals from Orissa have been pending due to non-availability of relevant documents.
