Tension erupted on Wednesday at Gobindpur village, a couple of km from the site of the 12 million tonne per annum greenfield steel plant proposed by Posco, when the supporters and opponents of the project clashed while taking a decision over village temple expenses.
The brawl started when Ashok Burdhan, head of Gobindapur village committee and belonging to the group favouring Posco, rang bells to convene a meeting of the villagers on taking decision for auctioning four acre farm land of the village temple.
The anti-Posco group within the village alleged that the committee head insulted them by intentionally not inviting them to take part in the decision making process.
The anti-Posco activists snatched the bell from Burdhan in protest, which led to clash between project supporters and opponents. Some miscreants from the anti-Posco faction also lobbed four crude bombs to intimidate the pro-Posco activists, but no one got injured, sources said.
