Fresh violence in Nandigram, two injured

Sources said both sides exchanged fire and hurled bombs at each other at a new area in Nandigram, where two BUPC members were injured.

Superintendent of Police S Panda said violence was reported from Satengabari and Jambari area in Nandigram Block II today.

CPI-M and BUPC supporters exchanged fire and hurled bombs at each other, Panda said. Two BUPC members Gopal Gayen and Utpal Mandal were injured when BUPC and CPI-M activists clashed at Gokulnagar here last night.

 

They have been admitted in Nandigram Hospital with splinter injuries. Around 500 people have taken shelter in two relief camps at Nandigram Block I and Maheshpur in the wake of fresh violence after a brief lull in the run up to the panchayat polls slated for May 11.
