G K Pillai new Home Secretary

Commerce Secretary G K Pillai was today named as the new Home Secretary and will take over from Madhukar Gupta who retires on June 30. 

The name of 59-year-old Pillai was cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

A 1972-batch Kerala-cadre IAS officer, Pillai who has earlier served in the Home Ministry as a joint secretary, will have a tenure of two years.

Gupta, whose tenure ended on March 31 this year, was granted an extension of three months because of the general elections.
