India and Germany are likely to sign a slew of agreements on mutual cooperation in the fields of science and technology and defence during the four day visit of German chancellor Angela Merkel to New Delhi and Mumbai beginning tonight.

Official sources say Germany is keen on cornering a share of the growing defence production market in India. This, therefore, is likely to figure prominently in the talks between Markel and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Economic cooperation remains on top of Merkel
