The Global IT Exposition (Gitex) 2004 is expecting a 57 per cent increase in the number of exhibitors compared with Gitex 2003.

The event, to be organised by the Dubai World Trade Center (DWTC), expects about 110 Indian and overseas exhibitors at the forthcoming event in January 2004 compared with 70 participants last time. The organisers have also advanced the schedule of the event to January 12 to 14 from the normal third week of January.

We are expecting 7,800 trade visitors this year compared with 4,500 visitors earlier, Mubarak bin Fahad, director general of DWTC, said at a press conference here. The event will be organised at the same venue as last year, i.e. Hitex (Hyderabad International Trade Exposition Centre) in about 2,500 sq mt of space compared with the 1,500 sq mt of space last time.

Speaking on the occasion, Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu informed that Emaar Properties, a Dubai-based infrastructure provider, is planning to construct an international convention center that will have an 8,000 seat auditorium and a luxury hotel with 700 to 800 rooms accommodation.

We are requesting the central government to provide financial assistance to the project, Naidu said. There are certain pre-requisites for the convention center to come up here, like an international airport and other such supporting infrastructure for which we are striving hard to fulfill those requirements, he added.

The chief minister also said that the government is discussing with the Hyderabad Software Exporters
