The strike was called off after the baking unit owners arrived to an agreement with the bangle dealers over the baking charges and other related issues.
Formally announcing the end of the month-long strike that was called in the last week of May, Inam Qureshi, chairman, Glass Bangle Baking Units Service Committee (Choodi Pakayi Bhatthi Seva Samiti) said: "There were more than 300 baking units functioning in the city that employed over 4,000 glass workers. The shutting down of these units rendered these workers as unemployed, creating a livelihood problem for them."
"In the interest of the workers, a meeting was again held recently between the bangle dealers and the baking unit owners in which most of the issues, including that of fixing a time-limit for credit accounts, were discussed with the bangle exporters, who have agreed to abide by a 15-day timeframe for settling credit accounts."
