One of Karnataka's leading industry bodies " The Greater Mysore Chamber of Industry (GMCI) is going in for a rebranding effort to reflect Bangalore's growing brand equity in the global market.

GMCI will be rechristened Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce. A resolution to this effect was recently passed and will be ratified shortly.

The industry body which completed 25 years last year and has affiliation with the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) at the national level, has gone in for this change as 'Mysore' in its name was being perceived as a Mysore specific body.

In addition to this, GMCI is also aligning on the lines of Bombay Chamber of Commerce.

With Bangalore being catapulted on to the global map for its ongoing sterling performance in the information technology and other sector exports, it was logical for an industry body striving for the industries in the state to have a name through which it can leverage instant recognition.

GMCI has been putting in efforts for the sake of the industries in Karnataka taking up their issues with the government authorities and enabling a frequent dialogue process through which amicable solutions were arrived at. GMCI at present has a total member base of 410.
