Goa BJP, has charged the Congress government in the state of not having a clear policy on the issue of Special Economic Zones (SEZs).
"The Digamber Kamat-led government's stand against SEZs is opaque. It does not have any foothold," Leader of Opposition in the state legislature, Manohar Parrikar said.
The Goa legislature unit of BJP has geared up to put the state government on the mat on various issues, during the monsoon session to begin on August 18, the most prominent being SEZs.
The Union Commerce ministry has taken a firm stand on these industrial enclaves asking the state government to sort out these issues with SEZ promoters. The Goa government has already scrapped 12 SEZs and has recommended denotification of three.
The state government run Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) has already issued show cause notices to seven SEZ promoters on revocation of lands allotted to them. These notices have been challenged in the High Court and the matter is sub-judice.
"The IDC issues notices without seeking legal opinion. This is being done to cover up the roots of land allotment scam," Parrikar alleged.
He also accused the state government of adopting a stand against SEZs without any legal backings. "They want to allow SEZs through the backdoor," he said.
