Goa seeks link with Kaiga plant

Goa has sought a link with the Kaiga nuclear power plant in Karnataka to get access to additional power.
 
Digambar Kamat, state power minister, called on Sushil Kumar Shinde, Union power minister, and conveyed the demand with other power requirements of the state.
 
Kamat said that he had also asked for allottment of additional 50 mw to Goa for peak hours to overcome the power crisis. He also demanded funds for setting up underground cable in Ponda, Vasco and Mapusa.
 
"I have not mentioned the quantum of power from the Kaiga nuclear power plant, which would boost the power scenario in the state," the minister said.
 
According to Kamat, Shinde has promised to discuss the demands during his visit to Goa on June 3.
 
Kamat stated that the Union power minister was keen to make Goa a model state as far as power is concerned given the state's comfortable power situation when the rest of the country is facing immense shortage.
 
"Shinde said that the Centre and the state should work together to make Goa a model state," he said.Kamat appealed people to conserve energy keeping in view the pressure on power generation in the country.
